Canggu in Bali is a perfect place where to mix work and surfing. It has many great surf spots, various places from where to work remotely and inspiring entrepreneurs all around to meet, not to mention the amazing food and friendly locals that totally make your stay.

We listed 12 reasons why we think it’s a good idea to combine remote work and surf and come to Canggu, Bali:

1. Hotspot for surfing

As they say – Bali is every surfers’s dream destination. You can see surfers in Canggu in the water pretty much at any time of the day.

Some of them are surfing already before the sunrise at 5.30 am and others keep surfing even after the sunset. There are many surf spots around Canggu and you can truly feel the surfing vibe.

2. Many nomads live in Canggu

Canggu is not just a place for tourists – there are many digital nomads and entrepreneurs living there. Lot’s of foreigners have decided to move their life and business to Canggu so that they can enjoy the closeness of the waves and have a great nomad community around them.

Besides that Canggu also has a rising start-up and entrepreneurial scene. There are many events happening where to boost your productivity & creativity and meet some likeminded people.

It’s incredible how you can find business partners or people with who to discuss your business obstacles, personal growth, investing and other ideas.

3. Fast WiFi & places to work from

Finding a fast WiFi is not a problem in Canggu and that’s one of the reasons why it’s a great place to work from. There are many cafes and co-working spaces that have fast WiFi and good working environment.

There might be some power cuts in Bali but many places have generators so that won’t stop you from being productive.

If WiFi is not enough then 4G works also very well – we would suggest Telkomsel SIM-card that has very good coverage.

4. Active & healthy lifestyle

Active & healthy lifestyle is truly a part of Canggu lifestyle and whether you want it or not it makes you want to become healthier as well.

Canggu has so many opportunities to stay active and healthy – lots of yoga studios, great gyms, possibility for a morning run on the beach, surfing of course and even an open-air bouldering where you can practice climbing.

5. Fresh fruits & smoothie bowls

Smoothie bowls are something that Bali is known for – there are many amazing cafes & restaurants in Canggu where you can find the most creative and fresh smoothie bowls for your taste.

These are fresh, yummy, give you lots of energy and truly make you smile. Besides it’s also fairly easy to find chia bowls, overnight oats and other variations of different bowl type goodies.

Of course you can find lots of different fruits also from the vendors on the streets or from markets – mango, pineapple, banana, dragon fruit and water melon are just some of the many fruits that you can find from Bali.

6. Friendly & smiley locals

Service with a smile is a standard in Canggu and honestly, wherever you go, locals try to make you feel like at home. Balinese people are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people in the world.

You can see the kids waving to you, parents giving big smiles and whenever you need help, there’s always someone who’s ready to help you.

7. Canggu, Bali is safe

Bali is one of the top destination for women travelling alone due to the safety they enjoy on the island. Locals are used to tourism and there is an environment of peace. Millions of tourists have safe trips to Bali every year. But of course, like any other place, there are things to be aware of. For example monkeys who want to steal your food 🙂

Theft is not a huge problem in Bali, but it does occur in the busiest tourist areas. Driving a scooter in Bali is mostly safe but sometimes the traffic is crazy, so it’s important to be careful in the traffic. Indonesia is a volcanic archipelago, so there might be earthquakes in Bali but most of these are not strong enough for human to feel.

8. Sunsets in Bali are something special

Bali is one of the best sunset destinations. Batu Bolong Beach which is a wide-stretch sand beach in Canggu is perfect for a sunset.

There are many sunset bars and beach clubs – just choose a spot, have a drink and enjoy the show. It’s even more magical when you can surf during the sunset. Definitely a goal that one should have.

9. Endless adventures

Bali has endless options for the adventurous souls.

You can find everything from chasing the waterfalls, climbing volcanoes, hiking or cycling rice patties and jungles all the way to water activities like island hoping, kayaking, surfing, diving, snorkelling, river rafting and even wake boarding.

10. Rice fields just around the corner

When you’re driving around in Canggu you can easily spot some rice fields. It’s very easy to reach rice terraces with a scooter, by bicycle or just by walking.

These are not as curvy and interesting as the rice fields near to Ubud but Canggu rice fields are still very beautiful and it’s worth walking around there, meeting locals and enjoying these beautiful views and the greenery around you.

11. Balinese culture

Bali has a rich culture that’s hard to miss. You can see hundreds of temples and many locals have their own small temples at home.

Dance and music are part of their culture and you can notice that. Food culture also has an important part in Balinese culture so why not to have a Balinese cooking class while there.

12. Spa treatments and massage

Spa treatments are yet another reason why to visit Bali. Canggu has lots of different spa’s where you can either relax for the whole day or just take some treatments to boost your body.

Spa treatments in Bali are relatively inexpensive and the quality in most places is very good.

These are just some of the reasons why it’s a good idea to combine remote work and surf and come to Canggu, Bali to experience this special lifestyle.
